Anita Hettema is a Registered Nurse and Public Health Specialist with over 20 years of experience managing and implementing public health initiatives in multiple Sub-Saharan African countries, including Tanzania, Namibia and Lesotho. In the last ten years, her work has focused on advancing HIV prevention strategies in Eswatini, where she has played a pivotal role collaborating with the Ministry of Health in the rollout of oral PrEP, the PrEP ring, and injectable Cabotegravir. Anita is recognized for her commitment to translating implementation research into actionable policy recommendations and ensuring that healthcare providers and community members are equipped with the latest knowledge and tools to improve health outcomes. Her leadership continues to shape effective, evidence-based public health responses in Eswatini. Anita was trained as a nurse in the Netherlands and holds a MPH from the University of South Africa.
