Trena Mukherjee

Technical Officer

Trena Mukherjee is an epidemiologist and implementation scientist with more than a decade of experience translating evidence into policy and person-centered programs. Her work has spanned HIV, TB, and substance use in the U.S. and globally, with a focus on advancing equitable access to health innovations.

At Root to Rise, Trena supports the development and implementation of evidence-based strategies for product introduction and scale-up. She brings expertise in implementation research, strategic planning, community engagement, human-centered design, and monitoring and evaluation, helping partners translate emerging evidence into practical approaches for real-world implementation.

Previously, Trena served as a Senior Technical Advisor at USAID, where she supported the introduction and scale-up of biomedical HIV prevention products and differentiated service delivery approaches across PEPFAR-supported countries in Asia and Africa. She also served as a Regional Technical Assistance Provider for Ending the HIV Epidemic at Georgetown University, supporting local health departments with implementation, evaluation, and quality improvement. Earlier in her career, Trena was a Senior Epidemiologist at the San Francisco Department of Public Health, where she supported quality management for behavioral health services and the city’s emergency overdose response during COVID-19. 

She holds a DrPH in Epidemiology from Columbia University, an MPH from Yale University, and a BA from Johns Hopkins University.
